Eric Chavez Breaks His Foot

On Thursday while running out his RBI triple in the fourth inning, Eric Chavez broke his left foot in the Yankees' loss against the Detroit Tigers. He was filling in for Alex Rodriguez that game, which has given the aging slugger the chance to rest some days and also was a very competent replacement for that short stint Arod was injured.

Chavez will be fitted with a boot to wear for 2 weeks and then will be re-evaluated. He'll be out for 4-6 weeks, possibly longer.

Unfortunatley for the Yankees this injury means that Girardi can't give Rodriguez as many days off to keep him at 100%. Ramiro Pena, was called up from AAA to fill Chavez's roster spot, but probably won't get a lot of playing time. I expect to see some more of Eduardo Nunez.
