UConn football's #1 receiver, Mike Smith has been determined to be academically ineligible to play in the 2011 football season. He started all 13 games last season and led the team with 46 catches for 615 yards and 2 TDs last season. However, he will still have one year of eligibility left.
This is a big blow to the Husky offense which is already filled with question marks. With no idea who the starting QB will be, who regardless of who it is will be inexperienced, or who the running back will be, this lack of continuity is not helping. In addition to the question marks at those positions, the receiving corps. wasn't that great to begin with. Last season the passing game was awful with many missed opportunities, dropped balls, and turnovers. Hopefully there will be some improvement among the returning receivers in order to make the passing game more of a threat.
